- Don’t waste water by letting it run while brushing, shaving, or doing the dishes.
- If your dishwasher is an “Energy Star” model, using it for a full load uses less water and energy than washing dishes by hand.
- Always wash clothes in a full load and use about half the “normal” amount of detergent, which is usually sufficient. Look for biodegradable detergents as well
- Keep showers short (3 minutes) - don’t shave in the shower and use the shut-off valve while lathering your hair.
- If you have a car, don’t wash it in the parking lot. (This is not permitted on campus anyway.) Take it to a car wash that uses reclaimed water or recycles water.
- When possible, use the water conserving fixtures (urinals and dual-flush toilets) being installed around campus (will start to show up Summer ’07)
- Report broken irrigation heads, which creates a “geyser” that goes straight up in the air about 20 feet, to Facilities Management at ext. 5444.
- Limit your use of ice and take only as much as you need. Ice-makers use lots of energy and water.
